The paint stripping technique is one needing a careful eye and patience, as well as knowing when to start cleaning afterwards. More recent doors won't have been made from a few solid pieces but rather combined from flakes and fragments of wood, unlike older doors. It's important to be careful when selecting a paint stripper, as joints can crack and tighten and the wood can twist. An advantage older fixtures have is that they don't get the modern kiln drying, which can shorten the lifespan of the wood considerably, so it's usually a good idea to make the effort to restore them properly.
