Some of the doors we deal with are framed and plank wood Stuart doors, and six panel Georgian doors. An advantage older fixtures have is that they don't get the modern kiln drying, which can shorten the lifespan of the wood considerably, so it's usually a good idea to make the effort to restore them properly. The paint stripping technique is one needing a careful eye and patience, as well as knowing when to start cleaning afterwards. It's important to be careful when selecting a paint stripper, as joints can crack and tighten and the wood can twist. Antique doors, windows and window frames would have been seasoned for many years, outside in the sun, to prevent cracking and warping.
