It's important to be careful when selecting a paint stripper, as joints can crack and tighten and the wood can twist. Outdoor furniture especially can have a hard time with exposure to the elements and so good restoration is a must. An advantage older fixtures have is that they don't get the modern kiln drying, which can shorten the lifespan of the wood considerably, so it's usually a good idea to make the effort to restore them properly. More recent doors won't have been made from a few solid pieces but rather combined from flakes and fragments of wood, unlike older doors. The paint stripping technique is one needing a careful eye and patience, as well as knowing when to start cleaning afterwards.
