An advantage older fixtures have is that they don't get the modern kiln drying, which can shorten the lifespan of the wood considerably, so it's usually a good idea to make the effort to restore them properly. And nobody has the experience and skill of Dipstrip at restoration and preservation! Antique doors, windows and window frames would have been seasoned for many years, outside in the sun, to prevent cracking and warping. More recent doors won't have been made from a few solid pieces but rather combined from flakes and fragments of wood, unlike older doors.
