An advantage older fixtures have is that they don't get the modern kiln drying, which can shorten the lifespan of the wood considerably, so it's usually a good idea to make the effort to restore them properly. Some of the doors we deal with are framed and plank wood Stuart doors, and six panel Georgian doors. Nothing beats the craftsmanship and skill of yesteryear, so we're focused on restoartion while respecting and maintaining that level of quality. There's no reason to risk your irreplaceable antique furniture, doors and window frames with anyone else. More recent doors won't have been made from a few solid pieces but rather combined from flakes and fragments of wood, unlike older doors.
