Some of the doors we deal with are framed and plank wood Stuart doors, and six panel Georgian doors. Antique doors, windows and window frames would have been seasoned for many years, outside in the sun, to prevent cracking and warping. An advantage older fixtures have is that they don't get the modern kiln drying, which can shorten the lifespan of the wood considerably, so it's usually a good idea to make the effort to restore them properly. It's important to be careful when selecting a paint stripper, as joints can crack and tighten and the wood can twist. It's not unusual for us to be restoring four panel Victorian doors and three plus one doors from the Edwardian era.
